cassandra c. jones: found photography
September 14th, 2009
Extremely interesting Boing Boing video interview with artist Cassandra C. Jones. She uses photography found on the internet and “glues” images together to create her art and to explore how we relate to these images. And I totally want to buy her wallpaper:

“Found?”
Found photography is it?
My how things get convoluted when we allow people to change the language. How about “found” novels? Can I republish them too? Hey – I’ll change it to all caps… or Papyrus?
“Found” stuff that belongs to other people isn’t really ‘found’ is it?
There is a word and a concept already in play for ‘finding’ things that aren’t yours.
Let’s see… what’s that called…?
I see what you’re saying, and I was unsure about using the word “found” but I do respect the fact that she stresses the photography she uses is not hers, and she’s not making any claims on it.
I think since snapshot photography on the internet is so ubiquitous these days, it’s an interesting way to comment on how the internet has changed how we view photography, and what people photograph.
