jennilee marigomen

I think I’ve been a fan of Jennilee Marigomen and I didn’t even know- looking through her website I recognized a bunch of her photos that I’ve probably seen on other blogs and other various places. I love her work, and I’m glad I finally could find her website and take a longer look at her photos. Check out the “From The See” series for a sample of her work:

salva lopez

Found this amazing photographer, Salva López. (I’m also in love with his website design.) Looking through his portfolio I was especially taken with this set, called Pol, which is about the birth of a baby. Check out the photos below, and make sure you go look at his website, there are a billion other great photo sets to look through:

exteens

I found a very cool photo-book being released by Blood of the Young Zine, called Exteens. It’s a collaboration between between David Geeting, T. Reilly Hodgson, Dimitri Karakostas, and Hannah Myall, a hand assembled edition of 40 – 36 4″x6″ photographs with 4 11″x15″ B&W posters and a nameplate.

It’s their second release, and it’s a limited edition, so get it now while you can!

tattooday

According to the dates on the photos, this flickr set Tattooday is about a year old, and it doesn’t look like it spanned an entire year so it can’t really qualify as a 365 project (and I do love those) but I think it’s still pretty cool. Flickr user xtrapop decided to write a different saying on his arm every day, kind of like a temporary tattoo. He says, “Hopefully the sayings will stick in my mind if I look at them all day. Maybe the meaning of the words will also sink into my body, along with the ink.” I hope it worked! Here’s a few I liked the best, but check out the full set to see them all:

yann faucher

I found Yann Faucher’s portfolio online and maybe I spent an unnecessarily long time trying to figure out his categories, but I think I made some sense of it. I liked the “and” category, which I think has something maybe to do with different types of relationships. I could be way off, but either way I’ll post a few of my favourites. Check out his other work though, because it’s really great and there’s lots more to see:

ruben brulat

I found Ruben Brulat’s photo series from Escape Into Life and I wanted to share.

“By putting himself in the pictures, he uses his naked body to express this feeling of anonymity we have in La Défense neighborhood in Paris.”

“When i started taking photographs of myself, it became obvious that it was easier to understand the malaise i had in these places, by getting naked i was feeling in total symbiosis. The more i was taking shots, the more i was understanding. Because, creating a fiction, may bring you closer to reality.”

lukasz wierzbowski

Came across photographer Lukasz Wierzbowski on www.booooooom.com (one of my favorite websites for finding new photographers btw) and I loved his aesthetic. Check out some of my faves from his tumblr site (good idea making a tumblr for your own photos, there’s so little of that on tumblr!):

fred lebain: a spring in new york

I came across this photo series by photographer Fred Lebain called A Spring In New York. What’s he done is take photos of various locations in New York, print them out as giant posters, then he went back later and photographed the same scene with a model holding up the photo he originally took at the location. I like this idea, it’s unusual and before you understand what he’s done, you have to stare at the photos wondering what’s going on in them. Check out some of my favourites:

hector sos: paper faces

I found this interesting commercial photo series from designer Hector Sos on DesignBoom. The photographer is cited as Xavier Mandiola and the studio is Rosa Lazaro, and the series is for a Spanish paper company. I thought it was an interesting and unique way to show off the company’s products, combining art with commercial, which is always exciting for me to see. Check out the photos below:

julia baum: houses

I found this really interesting photo series by photographer Julia Baum called Houses. Read her artist statement and check out some of the photos below:

Over the course of four years I have studied and photographically explored a set of suburban tract homes located in Santa Clara, California. They were built during the 1950’s and structured from the same architectural plan. This sort of terrain was first documented in the New Topography movement of the 1970’s. As I take a second look at these neighborhoods, I’ve found vast differences in what was once a uniform typology. Over the past 50 years these Houses have transformed from modest white cubes into a vibrant display of personality and present a rebellion against conformity. My work asserts that human individuality cannot be contained. Inevitably it shines through even the most average facade.
