where the wild things are forts
Just saw this on Booooooom! (and We Love You So) and I had to post about it since I loved the movie, Where The Wild Things Are forts photo contest. There were so many good ones, it was pretty much impossible to pick favorites, but check out some that I liked below and definitely go to the sites to see even more. Doesn’t this make you want to build your own?
master photographers
I love contemporary work, but I’ve also spent a lot of time looking back on the masters of photography. There’s a reason these photos are still around and people are still talking about them today. I found this site showcasing some of the Master Photographers of the past from Photography Now. It’s an amazing collection, nicely designed, and has so many famous and iconic images from all 38 different photographers, my favorites from photo-history class included. It’s impossible to pick favorites, you must see it!
its nice that zine: if drawings were photographs
Found this via My Love For You Is A Stampede Of Horses. It’s a zine from It’s Nice That, called If Drawings Were Photographs. Apparently the idea behind the zine is “Tom gave drawings to Rob and Rob tried to make them into photographs.” I think it’s hilarious, the photos and the drawings are both great. Check out the link to purchase the zine, and see some samples from it below:

exteens
I found a very cool photo-book being released by Blood of the Young Zine, called Exteens. It’s a collaboration between between David Geeting, T. Reilly Hodgson, Dimitri Karakostas, and Hannah Myall, a hand assembled edition of 40 – 36 4″x6″ photographs with 4 11″x15″ B&W posters and a nameplate.
It’s their second release, and it’s a limited edition, so get it now while you can!

vivian maier, her discovered work
Vivian Maier was an undiscovered (until now) street photographer from the 1950’s-1970’s. Her work was recently discovered at an auction in Chicago where she lived for 50 years, although she was originally from France. She was extremely prolific and over 40,000 medium format negatives were found. There is a blog set up where you can view some of these images, they’re really very amazing. I’ve posted a few that I liked, although there were so many that were really great, so check out the site for more.

flickr gallery: grow it out
Ok one more for today, I can’t get enough. This one’s called Grow It Out, and it’s all about hair, check out my faves below:
a hint…
I found this flickr gallery that I thought was pretty awesome called a hint…, check out the set below. I know I wrote this before, but I love this idea of getting to be your own curator. So fun!
Also, I’m trying out the new gallery settings, how does it work? What do you think? You can just click on the image to advance to the next one, pretty cool right?
flickr gallery: turned away
So I wrote yesterday about how excited I was for flickr galleries, and already I’ve been looking through them and finding so many cool collections! I really liked this one “Turned Away” by user kdeluga. This is also a subject I am often drawn to in photography. Check out some of my favorites below, and definitely get on flickr and look through the galleries that people have posted, there are already a lot of them there and so many great ones!

flickr: unleash your inner curator
It’s no secret that I’m a fan of flickr, I often find amazing photos there from unknown photographers, which is one of my favourite things to do. They’ve just created a new feature, which I think is amazing, galleries. Basically, a gallery allows you to be your own art curator, and showcase up to 18 photos or videos around one theme, or photographer, or whatever you choose! Very cool idea, since I already use it to find new photography. This way, it’ll just be easier! I can’t wait to explore all the galleries that flickr users create.
Check out some of my favourites from the Broken Wings and Flying Things gallery:

bored models
I liked this photo series, Bored Models, from Magnum/Slate. Photoshoots can often seem glamorous, but can actually be a lot of waiting around and hanging out. I also like seeing the “behind the scenes” activities. It gives you a glimpse into the real world, and not always the airbrushed, photoshopped final version of a shoot. Check out some of my favourites below:
